The point of our work was that big claims were being made for nano: the next industrial revolution and all that. And as the Crow and Sarewitz point that you sight, we treated it as an if-then: if you expect all the goodies, then you might expect some baddies. So let's see what we can make tractable about those expectations. Let's see if we can create some systematic methods for understanding what scientists and regular folks think these issues. Let's see if we can create some processes for linking the work of natural scientists and engineers on one hand and social scientists and humanists on the other.
